AfD Lawmaker Gets Found Guilty of Money Laundering, Coercion in Germany
Halemba, a young member of the Bavarian state parliament, was sentenced to 160 day-fines of €190 ($225) each, totaling €30,400 ($36,000). Prosecutors accused him of receiving suspicious transactions from a Baltic account and coercing a student who intended to testify against him during an investigation.
Throughout the trial, Halemba and his defense team claimed they were victims of political persecution, disputing some allegations and dismissing others as legally irrelevant. "This is about throwing mud and creating a connection to National Socialism," he said during his testimony.
The investigation began three years ago, with police raiding Halemba’s residence and uncovering data storage devices containing speeches by Adolf Hitler, Nazi-era marching songs, and music from banned bands with racist and antisemitic content. Authorities also discovered a blank-firing pistol.
Prosecutors further accused Halemba of incitement to hatred for playing a neo-Nazi song at his 2022 birthday party, whose lyrics threatened Germany’s Turkish immigrant community. Halemba denied being present when the song was played.
